A WOULD-BE robber in Brazil was made to regret his decision to try and rob Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) star Polyana Viana armed with only a cardboard gun.
Viana boasts an impressive 10-2 record in MMA but that didn’t prevent the suspect from attempting to mug the rising sports star outside her home in Rio De Janeiro.
Approaching the fighter as she waited for an Uber to arrive, the man asked her to give him her phone, adding that he was armed.
Only, he wasn’t armed. In fact, it soon became apparent that the man was bluffing, Viana just didn’t realise how big a bluff it was.
“He was really close to me. So I thought, ‘If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it.’ Viana told MMA Junkie.
What followed next was fast and furious to say the least.
"So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke.
"Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, ‘Now we’ll wait for the police.’”
It latter emerged that what they thought was a gun had been, in fact, a piece of cardboard cut into the shape of a weapon. How embarrassing.
The man was taken away by police who treated his wounds before carting him off to the station.
To make matters worse for the hapless robber, the Dana White, the President of UFC has since shared an image of the robber’s battered face following the altercation.
Crime doesn’t pay. Especially when it involves crimes against anyone who beats up people for living.
