A MOROCCAN man is under investigation over the death of an Irishman in a beachside surfer village on the west coast of Morocco.
The 40-year-old suspect was being quizzed by police and authorities after the Irishman was stabbed to death in the early hours of Wednesday, May 10.
It is believed that a kitchen knife was used in the attack.
The Irishman is believed to have been German by birth but acquired Irish citizenship after living and working in Ireland for a number of years.
A source told The Irish Post that he had been living in Taghazout for several years but had lost his partner some months ago and had been struggling with grief since.
Police attended the scene and found the Irish national with head injuries, according to local news Le 360, and he was taken to Hassan II Hospital in Agadir, where he later died.
A guard at the residential apartment told police that he had heard 'powerful cries' emerging from the complex at the time.
A Moroccan man was arrested at the apartment shortly after the incident.
He remains in custody pending the outcome of the investigation.
