Man flees police leaving partner and baby in upturned vehicle after collision

A MAN fled from an upturned car following a collision in a bid to evade police, leaving his partner and 18-month-old baby behind.

Fortunately there were no serious injuries in the incident, which happened in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, England, at around 2.10pm on Saturday.

The Derbyshire Road Policing Team said the Corsa, which had false plates, failed to stop.

After losing the car in the town centre, they discovered it flipped on its roof, having hit five cars.

The Corsa driver was then seen jumping into a canal, leaving his partner and 18-month-old baby in the upturned car.

Derbyshire Police confirmed the man was detained at the scene before being taken to hospital to be checked over.

The woman and baby were also taken to hospital for checks.
