A MAN who was washed out to sea off the west coast of Ireland today has died.
The man was believed to have been taking photographs at the base of a cliff at Creeragh off the Dunlicky coast road near Kilkee in Co. Clare when the accident happened.
It’s believed he was struck by a rogue wave and washed into the sea.
Emergency services were alerted at around 3.30pm and a major search and rescue operation got underway.
Gardaí and volunteers from the Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard were joined by the Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115.
The helicopter crew located the man and winched him on board before he was rushed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
However the man has since been pronounced dead.
It is believed he was aged 30, from Hungary and living in Galway.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
