A MAN has been charged in connection with a brutal attack on a pregnant woman during a burglary in Northern Ireland.
The assault happened in Burren Meadow in Newcastle, Co. Down at around 5.35am Sunday morning.
Police said the woman was punched and hit over her head with a glass bottle.
Her young daughter was also in the house when the attack happened.
A 35-year-old man was arrested later in the day on Westland Avenue in the town.
He has been charged with a number of offences, including aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and threats to kill.
The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries but was left distressed by her ordeal.
