Man charged with modern slavery offences after arrest at Irish Travellers' site in Bedfordshire

A MAN in Bedfordshire has been charged with modern slavery offences after being arrested at an Irish Travellers' site.

Christopher O’Driscol, 34, was charged on Friday, March 4, with six offences – including one count of knowingly requiring another person to perform forced or compulsory labour.

He was released on bail yesterday to appear before a judge on March 21.

Mr O’Driscol was arrested at a Travellers' site in Little Billington, Leighton Buzzard in October of last year.

His arrest came after a multi-agency operation that resulted in an investigation of the site.

He was charged by Bedfordshire Police in relation to the alleged worked carried out in slavery in July and August of 2015.

Mr O’Driscol was also charged with fraud by false representation and concealing or removing criminal property in connection with separate incidents the same year.

He was bailed yesterday to appear before Luton Magistrates’ Court on March 21 on the charges.
