A MAN has been charged with manslaughter after a father-of-three passed away almost five months after being attacked.
Seamus Bell, 36, died on June 2 having been in a coma since the alleged assault in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan on January 20.
The ‘happy-go-lucky character’ had been out celebrating the christening of his four-month-old twin daughters when the incident took place.
Independent.ie reports that Vytautas Racys, a married father-of-two who lived at Lough na Glack in Carrickmacross, appeared at Cloverhill District Court on Thursday to face an additional charge for unlawfully killing Mr Bell.
He had been in custody on remand since he was initially charged in January with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Mr Bell.
He was remanded in custody to appear again on June 28.
Mr Bell died at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda earlier this month.
Carrickmacross Lions, who had been raising funds for Mr Bell’s family, described him as “a happy-go-lucky character… [who] lived his life on a day-to-day basis”.
During Mr Bell’s funeral cortege, members of the many sports clubs he was affiliated with formed guards of honour as the procession passed through the county.
His funeral took place at St Patrick’s Church on Saturday, June 16 in Keady, Co. Armagh.
