POLICE were called to Lendrick Street in the city early this morning.
In the early hours of this morning, emergency services were alerted following the attempted murder by one man.
The 47-year-old in question was arrested after the victim, a 39-year-old man was found to have been stabbed in both his head and hands.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, detectives are appealing for people with any information to come forward should they have any details. The incident happened at 8.30am this morning.
It is reported the police force sent out to investigate the incident had to force their entry before finding the accused.
Detective Mason of the PSNI gave more details regarding the incident: "A 39-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment to lacerations to his head and cuts to his hands. His condition is not thought to be life-threatening at this time.
"We would urge anyone who was in this part of the Newtownards Road between 8am and 8.30am this morning and saw any suspicious activity to get in contact with detectives at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 446 of 26/11/17.
"Alternatively, information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
