POLICE in Belfast have arrested a 23-year-old on suspicion of attempted murder following a shooting in the city yesterday morning.
The incident occurred at around 1.30am on Saturday in the New Lodge area.
The victim, a man in his 20s, sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen as well as facial injuries.
He was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew, before being taken to hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
Detectives are not treating the incident as a paramilitary-style attack.
The arrested man remains in police custody.
