A MAN has been arrested and charged in Drogheda for spitting at a garda yesterday afternoon.
The culprit, believed to be in his 30s, had reportedly approached gardai as they were responded to a separate incident.
He was arrested and taken to Drogheda Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Crminal Justice Act.
He has since been charged in relation to the incident and appeared before Dundalk District Court this morning.
Gardai were reportedly trying to arrest a man in his 20s who was allegedly in possession of a knife when they were spat upon.
The supposed knife-wielder reportedly evaded gardai following the incident but was tracked down and later arrested.
There's been a recent crackdown on incidents of intentional spitting on coughing in light of the coronavirus crisis.
