Man, 60s, dies after his television exploded in rural Irish town

A MAN has died after his television exploded at his home in Co. Donegal.

Wilson McGirr, aged in his 60s, passed away this morning just days after his TV burst into flames on Monday evening.

Mr McGirr was well-known locally in the town of Raphoe and worked as a farmer in the area.

An investigation has been launched and a post-mortem is due to be carried out to determine his cause of death.

It is understood that Mr McGirr managed to remove the TV set outside onto the road as he feared it would set fire to the rest of his home.

However, it is thought he may have suffered suspected heart complications caused by smoke inhalation, according to the Irish Times.

The farmer managed to alert local residents to the fire but collapsed at his house a short time later.

Neighbours carried out CPR on Mr McGirr at the scene and called emergency services.

He was rushed by ambulance to hospital where he remained in a critical condition yesterday.

Sadly, the farmer passed away in the early hours of this morning despite the efforts of medical personnel.

His post-mortem is due to be carried out at some point on Thursday.
