Man in his 40's arrested after €90k worth of heroin seized in Kilkenny

A MAN in his 40's has been arrested after over €90k of heroin was found in his car in Co Kilkenny.

The drugs were discovered by gardaí after they intercepted and stopped a car on the M9 motorway near the village of Knocktopher late last night.

Heroin with an estimated value of €90,000 (pending analysis) was discovered in the vehicle.

The driver, a man in his 40s, was arrested.

The seizure and arrest are part of a planned operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in south Tipperary and Kilkenny.

Gardaí from the Tipperary Divisional Drug Unit and members of the Armed Support Unit were involed in last night's incident.

The man was taken to Thomastown Garda Station and is being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act 1996, meaning he can be held for up to seven days.

Investigations are ongoing and gardaí say further updates will follow.

Gardaí released a statement following the arrest:

"Gardaí have seized Heroin with an estimated value of €90k (analysis pending) and arrested one man during a planned operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in south Tipperary and Kilkenny.

"The drugs were discovered by Gardaí when they intercepted and stopped a car travelling on the M9 motorway near Knocktopher late last night.

"The driver of the car, a man in his 40s was arrested.

"He is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act, 1996 at Thomastown Garda Station.

"He can be held for up to seven days.

"The operation was conducted by Gardaí from the Tipperary Divisional Drugs Unit and members of the Armed Support Unit.

"Investigations are ongoing and further updates will follow."
