A MAN has been charged with murdering a three-year-old boy at a house in Derry.
Kayden McLaughlin was found dead at a property in the Northern Irish city's Bogside on September 17 last year.
The accused, aged 23, is due to appear at Derry Magistrates' Court today.
A 24-year-old woman arrested on Monday in connection with the toddler's death has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS), the PSNI said.
Little Kayden was discovered dead at his Columbcille Court home shortly before 10am on Sunday, September 17 2017.
The young boy had been living in Bogside with his mum, Erin McLaughlin and new baby sister, Skyler.
Witnesses at the time reported traumatic scenes outside the family home as family and relatives realised the three-year-old had died.
His funeral was held two weeks later at St Columba’s Church in Derry city centre.
Detectives decided to charge the accused with Kayden's murder following the results of an extensive post-mortem examination, according to Derry Daily.
The charge will be reviewed by the PPS as is standard procedure.
