A Lucky Charms flavoured beer has arrived just in time for St Patrick’s Day

ST PATRICK’S Day is fast approaching, and The Irish Post has found the perfect tipple to help you stand out from the crowd – for good and bad reasons.

Lucky Charms cereal isn’t, technically speaking, Irish save for the presence of their iconic mascot Lucky the Leprechaun on the box.

Consisting of toasted oat pieces and multi-coloured marshmallow shapes, it’s not a cereal eaten in many households over in the Emerald Isle either – no mammy worth her salt would allow such a thing.

Yet despite all of these factors, the idea of a beer that fuses the sweet taste of Lucky Charms with the similarly sweet taste of good old alcohol sounds like something most Irish folk would be onboard with.

In the past, such a concept would have been the stuff of fantasy; a daydream to while away the working day with.

But this is 2019 and with microbreweries in rude health, it’s just become a reality.

It’s called Saturday Morning and while it doesn’t come with the approval of Lucky Charms’ parent company General Mills, to all intents and purposes it’s a Lucky Charms beer.

An IPA made with marshmallows, Saturday Morning is the fine work of Smartmouth Brewing Company and is set to be unleased on customers over in Norfolk, Virginia this Saturday (March 2nd).

“Designed to remind you of your childhood when you used to sort through bowls of your favorite breakfast cereal to separate the marshmallows from the cereal,” the blurb accompanying the beer reads.

“Whether you ate them first or saved them for last, we’ve got you covered with our latest beer.”

Boasting a heady 6.6% ABV, Saturday Morning was brewed using toasted marshmallows and dehydrated marshmallow bits.

Fans may have to wait a little longer to get their hands on this unique beer though with an initial limited batch released and only available in Virginia.

These really are exciting times for beer lovers everywhere.
