MORE than 25 Irish winners in the recent Great Taste Awards will be showcased at next month’s Speciality & Fine Food Fair in London.
Gold star winners Burren Smokehouse, Cashel Farmhouse Cheesemakers, The Foods Of Athenry, Keogh’s Crisps and The Little Milk Company will be among the 18 Irish producers on the Bord Bia - Irish food board - stands at the annual event at London Olympia.
Bord Bia’s Gillian Swaine said: “Irish food and drink performed fantastically at this year’s Great Taste Awards, with over 400 different products being recognised, including five awarded the highly coveted three gold stars.”
She added: “To receive such acclaim at these prestigious awards is great recognition of the high quality food and drink that is on offer from Ireland.”
Mileeven Fine Foods, Milleens Cheese Ltd, Newgrange Gold and the Woodcock Smokery will also be in London for the much anticipated food industry event, due to take place from September 7 – 9.
The Irish three gold star winners of the recent Great Taste Awards were Bell Lane’s Dragonfly Espresso; The Cloudberry Bakery’s Sea Salted Caramel; Noba’s Fresh Lemon ice cream; James Whelan Butchers’ Beef Dripping and Irish Atlantic Sea Salt with Dill Pollen.
Their success at Great Taste, which is organised by the British Guild of Fine Food, came after 405 judges, including 38 specially trained coordinating food writers, spent 50 days considering nearly 10,000 products.
Only 125 foods achieved three gold stars in the annual event.
