LONDON remains the most popular summer destination for Irish holidaymakers, followed closely by Portugal, Spain and France.
Figures released by the hotel search website Trivago.ie show London is the most popular international location for Irish travellers this year, followed by Albuferia in Portugal, Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote and Paris in France.
The remainder of the top ten includes Spanish cities Salou and Barcelona, Rome in Italy, New York and Las Vegas in the US and Amsterdam.
But for the Irish who are summering at home this year, they are most likely to be heading for Dublin, the Trivago figures reveal.
The capital proves the most popular Irish destination for Trivago users in Ireland, despite the prices of hotels in the city costing on average of €22 more per night than they did in 2014.
“Once again Dublin is the go-to Irish destination for travellers from Ireland this summer, who evidently refuse to be put off by what is a significant average price increase per night,” Trivago’s David Lintott, explained.
“Irish holidaymakers continue to spend above the average when it comes to summer accommodation,” he added, “but there are bargains to be had in top city destinations for those operating with tighter purse strings.”
Regarding the best hotel prices available internationally, he added: “Travellers seeking sunshine and a bargain can find low hotel prices in Madrid, where the average price of a room is just €77 – a €58 saving on the average national spend.”
