A 104-YEAR-OLD Liverpool superfan enjoyed a birthday to remember courtesy of the Reds.
Bernard Sheridan ranks among Liverpool’s longest serving fans, having faithfully followed the Merseyside club for 96 years.
Sheridan first began watching Liverpool as an eight-year-old when his uncle used to take him to games at Anfield.
As a show of appreciation for his dedication to the club, Sheridan received a letter from the club’s manager Jurgen Klopp which included a special invitation to Saturday’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Anfield.
"Dear Bernard, I would like to personally wish you a very happy 104th birthday,” the letter reads. "I hope you enjoy celebrating with your family and friends.”
"Thank you for your continued support of Liverpool Football Club.”
"You'll Never Walk Alone.”
Club representatives surprised Sheridan at his care home in Great Crosby, Sefton, Merseyside, to present him with the letter and tickets.
He was also handed a birthday cake and a personalised shirt with his name and the number 104 on the back.
Sheridan is bringing the whole family along for Saturday’s game.
All of his sons will be in attendance along with his seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Some relatives are even flying over from Canada for the game.
Sheridan said: “I’ve been a proud Liverpool supporter since I was a boy and have supported the club through thick and thin, so I’m absolutely thrilled to be off to the match on Saturday! Obviously, the icing on the cake will be when we beat Crystal Palace!”
Linda Johnson, Home Manager at The Tithebarn, said: “Bernard is well known at our Home for his love of Liverpool FC. He keeps up to date with every game, speaking weekly on the subject to his son in Canada. He’s such a wonderful gentleman and we’re delighted that the Club have come up trumps for him!”
