THE Taoiseach has spoken of the comparison between Irish homelessness standards and those of other countries.
Leo Varadkar has claimed that Irish homelessness levels are at a low level despite the growing numbers of homeless on Irish streets.
Despite reports that prove that more than 3,000 Irish children are living without a home in today's Ireland, Varadkar defended the Irish rates of homeless people at today's Fine Gael conference.
According to BreakingNews.ie, Varadkar told reporters at the event that "Ireland has one of the lowest homelessness in the country by international standards compared with our peers, they're the stats, we can provide them for you.
"That is a good thing in Ireland, that we have a low level of homelessness compared to our peer's countries. But what's better than that is we don't think that's good enough, and we want to continue to reduce homelessness in the years ahead."
When asked if the rates of homelessness in Ireland today are those of the worst in Irish history, Varadkar answered: "Yes, the situation has increased in the last number of years, but by international standards it is low. But that's not good enough and we want to make sure we turn the tide on it."
