Irishman dies after mountain fall in Snowdonia while hiking with daughter

AN IRISHMAN has died after falling 'some distance' down a gully while hiking Snowdonia with his daughter. 

John Wynne, was originally from Co. Carlow but had been living in working in Devon, died after a fall on Sunday, May 14.

Ogwen Mountain Rescue in Wales received a a report shortly after midday from a solo climber that a male had fallen 'some distance' down the North Gully, Tryfan, and was possibly unconscious.

The rescue team and Coastguard helicopter was deployed, and the winchman was able to remove Mr Wynne from the gully.

Despite being flown directly to Bangor Hospital, Mr Wynne sadly passed away.

Rescuers escorted Mr Wynne's daughter back to a nearby road and arranged 'appropriate care' for her, they said.

Mr Wynne worked for a variety of local and national clients, and was also a director of a local charity.

He was on the leadership team of Christ Church Woodbury, near Exeter.

Mr Wynne is survived by his wife and three children.

Hawksmoor Investment Management, where Mr Wynne worked as head of finance, said they were "shocked and sad to learn of the untimely death of John Wynne.

"John was an outstanding colleague and friend, whose calm and congenial approach made him universally popular.

"He began working with Hawksmoor as financial controller in 2009 and became a director of Hawksmoor Investment Management in 2014.

"A qualified Chartered Accountant, John spent most of his professional career working in financial services in Ireland, Bermuda and the UK."

John Crowley, Hawksmoor’s CEO said: “We are devastated to lose such a valued and admired friend and colleague as John.  His wise and experienced input from the very early days of Hawksmoor made a major contribution to the Company’s growth.

"He will be sorely missed and our hearts go out to his family at their untimely loss”.
