Joe Biden pledges to be ‘president who seeks not to divide, but to unify’ America in victory speech

JOE BIDEN has pledged to be a President “who seeks not to divide but unify” during his rousing US election victory speech.

The Democrat was named the winner of the 2020 election after securing victory in the key swing state of Pennsylvania, which propelled him to 273 electoral college votes – three more than the 270 required to claim the White House.

President Donald Trump has promised to contest the result, claiming widespread vote rigging but Biden struck a more conciliatory tone during his victory address in Wilmington, Delaware.

He told supporters” “The people of this nation have spoken. They’ve delivered us a clear victory, a convincing victory, a victory for you the people.

“I’m humbled by the trust and confidence you’ve placed in me.

“I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but to unify. Who doesn’t see red and blue states, only sees the United States.

"And who will work with all my heart to win the confidence of all of you, and for that, I believe, is what America is all about.”

Joe Biden continued: "I'm a proud Democrat but I will govern as an American president.

"I'll work as hard for those who didn't vote for me as those who did.

"Let this grim era of demonization in America begin to end here and now."

The remarks stand in stark contrast to those of Trump who took to Twitter during Biden’s speech to make several baseless claims regarding the result.

Writing in block capitals, the President tweeted: "THE OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED INTO THE COUNTING ROOMS.

"I WON THE ELECTION, GOT 71,000,000 LEGAL VOTES. BAD THINGS HAPPENED WHICH OUR OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE.

"NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WERE SENT TO PEOPLE WHO NEVER ASKED FOR THEM!"
