Irishman Keith Collins killed in stabbing while on a dinner date in Sydney

AN Irishman has been killed while having dinner at a suburban Sydney restaurant in what police are treating as a targeted attack.

Keith Collins, 53, was dining with a woman, when a 44-year-old man allegedly walked into the restaurant’s kitchen, picked up a knife and then stabbed both diners, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, who spoke to eyewitnesses.

It is understood that Mr Collins was on a first date with the women when they were attacked at the shopping centre on Florence Street, Hornsby at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.

Mr Collins - from Dublin, is believed to be a local resident of Sydney for a number of years.

He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

The woman received stab wounds to her chest and deep cuts to her forearm. She was also treated by paramedics before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital.

New South Wales Police confirmed that a 44-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

The man is due to appear before Hornsby Local Court today.
