Irishman donates $1 million to Australia's same-sex marriage campaign

AN IRISHMAN has donated $1 million to Australia's same sex marriage campaign, according to reports.

Alan Joyce, the CEO of Australia's Qantas airline, has allegedly donated same-sex marriage ‘Yes’ campaign so far, according to the Australian Financial Review.

According to the publication, Mr Joyce's contribution is the largest personal donation to the campaign so far.

Mr Joyce, 51 and originally from Tallaght, Co. Dublin, has previously spoken out in favour of same sex marriage.

Last month, he said Qantas will get behind the campaign to legalise same-sex marriage in Australia.

“I believe we have to get behind it and make sure that we have a Yes vote and certainly I will be out there strongly campaigning for a Yes vote,” he said.

“I think it is very important for our employees, customers and our shareholders, and that is why Qantas is a supporter of marriage equality and a supporter of gender equality and a supporter of indigenous rights,” he added.
