Irish woman suffers horrific injuries after hair catches in farm conveyor belt

AN IRISH woman living in Australia has suffered horrific injuries after her hair got caught in a farm conveyor belt.

Kilkeary, Co. Tipperary native Annie Dunne was working on a farm near Melbourne to secure her second year visa when the accident occurred.

Now her friends in Ireland and Down Under are raising money for her as she recovers in hospital.

Ms Dunne was completing the mandatory 88 days of work on a farm that emigrants to Australia must complete to get a second year visa.

She was working on a farm at Shepparton East, a remote area about 200km north of Melbourne, when the accident happened on November 7.

Though the details of the accident were not made clear, Ms Dunne was airlifted to hospital in Melbourne shortly after it occurred.

“She had a horrific accident on the farm where her hair got stuck in a conveyor belt causing some pretty awful damage, she had to be air lifted to hospital last week, where she is still receiving treatment,” the fundraising page says.

So far, $29,000 has been raised of the $50,000 target.

An ABC news report on the accident  says Ms Dunne suffered “major head injuries” when the conveyor belt pulled at her hair.

Ms Dunne was reportedly living in Australia with one of her sisters.

Her parents have since flown to Australia to be at their daughter’s bedside.

While she recovers in Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, the funds raised will go towards medical bills and her family’s costs as they stay in the country.
