A WOMAN has died in Melbourne after a tree branch struck the car she was travelling in.
According to 7news.com.au, the 25-year-old Armadale resident was an Irish national.
The woman was travelling in the back seat of the car when the 200kg eucalyptus tree branch fell on the vehicle as it travelled along Kings Way in South Melbourne at around 9pm on Friday.
She was rushed to hospital but died as a result of her injuries.
Another woman, 25, who was also travelling in the back seat of the car, was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where she is being treated for head and back injuries.
The 38-year-old male driver and a 25-year-old woman travelling in the front passenger seat were uninjured.
A local resident told 7news.com.au that the three female passengers were from Ireland.
