AN IRISH resident travelling to England for an abortion died following the procedure.
The woman, who was pursuing a late-term abortion at a Marie Stopes clinic in Ealing, west London was reportedly swaying and looked drunk after the termination.
The 31-year-old woman was discharged from the clinic after she suffered a tear on her uterus.
In the procedure, it was revealed the surgeon had difficulty in removing a 22-week-old foetus from the womb of the woman that had not fully dilated.
After she woke from the anaesthetic, Aisha Chithira vomited and said she was feeling unwell but was packed off in a taxi. Staff at the hospital the woman was booked into told her she couldn't stay overnight to recover.
According to The Irish Times Ms Chithira's husband, Ryan recalled his wife saying "I cannot speak, I’m feeling too weak to speak" as they spoke on the phone after the procedure. He was looking after their daughter at the time.
It's said Ms Chithira suffered severe internal bleeding later that evening and died that night.
The doctor who performed the procedure along with two nurses appointed to the case of Ms Chithira was charged with manslaughter by negligence and for breaking health and safety.
The case has since been dropped.
