AN IRISHMAN has drowned off the coast of a popular tourist spot in Portugal.
The 69-year-old died at Peneco Beach – one of two beaches in the tourist hotspot of Albufeira.
Paramedics attempted to revive him at the scene when he was pulled from the water but he was pronounced dead at Albufeira Marina.
The unnamed holidaymaker died at around 4pm on Saturday afternoon.
A post-mortem was due to take place yesterday but the results have not yet been made public.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said it has not been asked to provide consular assistance in the case.
The man’s death marks the second time an Irish tourist drowned in Albufeira this year.
In August, 29-year-old David Keogh Greystones, Co. Wicklow was found dead in a swimming pool in the resort.
