Irish teen reportedly dies in two-car collision in Australia

AN IRISH teenager has reportedly died following a two-car collision in Australia.

According to Australia's 9 News, the 18-year-old male died at the scene in Cobden, around 200km south-west of Melbourne, at 1.20am on Saturday.

The broadcaster adds that two other Irish men, aged 30 and 21, who were in the same car, were taken to Warrnambool Hospital with serious injuries.

The female driver of the other vehicle has also been taken to hospital.

In a statement, Victoria Police confirmed an 18-year-old male had died at the scene.

"Sadly, a young man has died following a two-car collision in Cobden this morning," read a statement.

"It is believed the two vehicles collided at the intersection of Bond Street and Cross Forest Road about 1.20am.

"An 18-year-old man, who was ejected from one of the vehicles, died at the scene.

"Two other males from the same vehicle, aged 30 and 21 years old, have been transported to hospital with serious injuries.

"The female driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital as a precaution."

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
