THE IRISH public have been given a glimpse of what they can expect once shops begin to reopen.
Retailers across Ireland are weighing up a variety of options that will ensure they are able to continue trading while maintaining the strict new social distancing rules in place.
Retail Excellence, the not-for-profit company supporting Irish retailers, has published a list of potential options for non-essential shops reopening in the coming weeks and months.
These considerations offer up a snapshot of just some of the potential measures that could be implemented to help maintain service.
According to the Irish Times, these include a temperature checks on customers entering shops and an end to 2 for 1 deals and other promotions.
The latter of these two proposed measures would be designed to discourage a surge of people visiting a particular store to capitalise on a promotional offer.
Another measure discussed by the body would see shopping baskets scrapped in favour of a trolley only system that would assist in maintaining the two-metre social distancing rule.
Contactless card payments are also likely to become the norm, while personal protective equipment will be handed out to staff on a daily basis.
Some smaller shops will likely have to adjust their layout to stick to ensure distancing is maintained.
The proposals outlined by Retail Excellence remain merely guidelines at this stage but could yet mirror any plans introduced by the government over the next few weeks.
