Irish school closed amid security concerns after threatening message

AN IRISH school has closed amid security concerns after a message was found threatening a 'mass shooting.' 

Scoil Dara in Kilcock, north Co Kildare, announced their sudden closure in a statement on its website.

In the statement, the  Board of Management for the secondary school said: "Following a meeting of the Board of Management of Scoil Dara late this evening, it has been decided to close the school to students tomorrow Tuesday December 5 pending a safety risk assessment."

However, according to Irish news website TheJournal.ie, it's understood that a message was found on a toilet wall which threatened a mass shooting at the school today, December 5.

It is also understood the threat is not viable nor serious not a viable or serious threat, the school was due to host a ceremony today and the decision was taken to close the school.

A spokeswoman for An Garda Síochána said they are investigating the incident.

"We are investigating a matter that has been brought to our attention, in a school in Kildare, investigations are ongoing,"
