Irish school children in Cork recreate the Easter Rising with Lego

A GROUP of primary school children in Cork city brought their history lesson to life with Lego.

The students, aged nine and ten years of age, made their own Lego movie telling the tale of the Easter Rising.

The third class pupils at Sundays Well Boys National School spent the last three weeks making the short film ahead of the centenary of the1916 Rising in March.

The stop frame animation is historically accurate and covers what happened in Dublin around the time of the rebellion.

The boys' Lego version of the General Post Office on O'Connell Street - one of the key sites connected to the Rising - took two days to build, before it was dismantled and rebuilt as the Kilmainham Gaol yard where several of the 1916 leaders were executed.

Along with their teacher Mr Michael O'Connor, the pupils moved their miniature 1916 heroes bit by bit as they captured more than 1,000 individual frames.
