IRELAND IS getting into the festive spirit extra early this year.
Newly-published figures have revealed that a whopping €383,000 has been spent on mince pies ahead of Christmas Day.
Data provided to Extra.ie by Kantar has revealed the astonishing number of Irish folk heading to their local supermarket to stock up on these familiar festive favourites.
Best enjoyed alongside a glass of sherry or mulled wine, there’s no word on how much alcohol is being purchase in preparation for December 25 – but hazard a guess some is.
Charlotte Scott, consumer insight director at Kantar, said: “However, with Halloween now finished, we’re already seeing evidence of people getting in the festive spirit as 6.5% of us have bought a mince pie – worth €383,000 to retailers so far this year.”
All this and there’s still more than a month to go until Christmas arrives.
