MICHAEL D HIGGINS is seeking a second term as Ireland's president and will outline his intentions come July.
The Irish Times is reporting that the 76-year-old has told politicians likely to support him to prepare for the campaign.
Mr Higgins previously said he would indicate by September whether he intends to run again, with a presidential election due to take place by November.
The popular Limerick man is likely to face competition from a number of candidates in the presidential race, including Fianna Fail senator Mark Daly and Independent senator Gerard Craughwell.
However, their work will certainly be cut out for them as a massive 75 percent of people want to see Michael D serve another seven years as president, according to the Journal.
Back in 2016, Leo Varadkar said that he had "no doubt" that Higgins would receive a huge amount of support should he run for another term.
“Whether he would be unopposed or not, that’s a matter for others," he said.
"But I think that if he were to seek a second term he would have very strong cross-party support."
