IRISH Post journalist Nemesha Balasundaram has received the 2015 NCTJ Excellence Award in the field of Sports Journalism.
The award was handed out at the annual Journalism Skills Conference – which celebrates the achievements of top-performing apprentices, students and trainees – in Birmingham on Thursday night.
“I'm absolutely delighted to receive the award,” said 26-year-old Nemesha. “It's an honour to be recognised amongst my peers for the work that I've done.
“A huge congratulations to the other award winners and nominees, and a particular thank you to my interview subjects.”
Nemesha fended off nominees from Shields Gazette, News Associates Manchester and St Mary's University to take the award.
Her stories on Irish Paralympic cyclist Colin Lynch and feature interviews with Irish cricketer Ed Joyce and Irish motorsport prospect Ryan Cullen sealed the gong.
Irish Post Sports Editor Jamie Casey said: “Nemesha is one of those rare talents who can turn her hand to any topic, be it politics, business or in this case sport.
“I’m delighted she’s been recognised for her hard work so early in her career and look forward to spending many more hours collaborating with her on the sports desk at The Irish Post.”
