THE AVERAGE Irish person has been 'sexually exposed' to 3.7million people, a survey has found.
Based on the Lloyds Online Doctor study, a normal sexually active Irish man or woman could have been exposed indirectly to 3,742,654 people.
That figure is based on the average number of sexual partners - and these people's previous partners.
Lloyds came to the enormous figures using a 'sex degrees of separation' calculator.
The survey also found that an astonishing 40 per cent of Irish people do not use protection with a new sexual partner.
But unlike British respondents to the survey who blamed their promiscuity on alcohol, Irish people put a lack of caution down to being "caught up in the moment".
Tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) were also at a worryingly low rate .
A huge 67 per cent of Irish men over the age of 45 admitted never being tested for an STI - while the overall rate was 40 per cent.
But Irish men fared better than their British counterparts - with 86 per cent of British men over 40 never having been tested.
The Lloyds survey also found that one in four Irish people lie about the number of sexual partners they have had - while a third of those who have had STIs do not tell a new sexual partner.
