Irish murder victim was a 'dead man walking' after being lured to his death

A 26-year-old Dublin man who was shot dead on Tuesday night has been described as a ‘dead man walking’.

Jason Molyneux was shot six times in Dublin’s north inner city by a lone gunman who fled the scene.

Sources told the Irish Mirror that the victim had been warned by gardaí a number of times that his life was in danger.

He had not been wearing his bulletproof vest when he was killed at James Larkin House in Dublin’s North Strand.

Molyneux had 122 prior convictions and had been due to carry the coffin of close friend Derek Hutch, who was killed last week.

Gardaí described the killing as a "callous murder", saying he was lured to his death.

A source told the Irish Mirror that Molyneux may have known his killer and had arranged to meet him at the scene of his death.

It's believed Molyneux’s killing could be connected to the attempted murder of Derek 'Bottler' Devoy last August.

Devoy’s sister Antoinette Corbally–Devon, 47, and 30-year-old Clinton Shannon, were shot dead when two gunmen stormed through their home in Ballymun, Co. Dublin.

The source told the Irish Mirror: “The fact that he was gunned down when there was such a heavy garda presence ahead of the funeral of his friend Derek Hutch proves how his killers were willing to take chances in order to take him out.

“It was obviously well organised and those behind it had been watching him.”

Locals in the North Strand area of the city say the gunman ran from the scene and was dressed in dark clothing.
