Irish mum left traumatised after stranger shouted N-word at her 18-month-old baby in vile race-hate incident

The mother of the baby has had to move home before due to racism but still resides in the area.

PSNI are appealing for information following an incident that occurred at 12.15pm on Monday on the Falls Road in Belfast, County Antrim.

Mother-of-six Lisa was walking with her son Ryan in a pram when she was verbally assaulted by a stranger walking along the same road.

The woman screamed the N-word as she walked down the road and even looked into 18-month-old Ryan's pram to scream the racial slur in his face.

Speaking to Belfast Telegraph, Ballymurphy woman Lisa said she was shocked following the incident: "It has just been shocking. Basically I was taking the baby shopping after 12pm walking up the Falls Road and a woman came close to me and I thought she was a passer-by and screamed all over the road the n-word."

Lisa said she tried to confront the woman regarding her outburst: "I said to her excuse me, she continued to walk on and I was expecting a confrontation.

"She was about 45-50 and not a care in the world she just walked on, it was horrible," she added.

The perpetrator of the assault has been described as a woman in her late forties or early fifties, who was 5'7'' in height with auburn shoulder length hair who was wearing a long skirt or maxi dress which was blue/purple in colour.

Lisa said nearly all of her children have been racially abused at some point, adding this latest incident was a criminal offence: "It's a hate crime. I'm in a mixed-race marriage. We have six children and five of them have experienced racism at different levels."
