A LIFELONG Manchester United fan is prepared to do the unthinkable.
Mick O'Brien has promised to risk his "worst nightmare" and get a Liverpool crest tattooed on his hand if he can reach his fundraising target of €20,000 for a young cancer-stricken Dublin girl.
The Tipperary native does not know the family of 10-year-old Robyn Smyth, but he has been touched by her story as his own daughter suffers from leukaemia.
“I know what it's like to watch your child suffer and struggle financially,” he said.
“I hope everyone, especially both sets of fans come together and we can make sure this young lady gets all treatment she needs to live a long happy life.”
Mick has raised €535 since he began fundraising a week ago, and generous donors have until November 24 to make a contribution.
Robyn has been battling neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer, for the past seven years.
She was previously given the all clear, but the disease has returned and she now needs urgent lifesaving treatment in the US.
Doctors have given her just a five per cent chance of survival, and her parents need to raise €266,000 to receive the overseas treatment.
Mick, who cites Eric Cantona as his favourite player, said that the tattoo will be a “constant source of torment.”
He added: "Some of the lads I'm friends with are big Liverpool fans so I know they will be making donations and pushing for me to get the tattoo."
