Irish man wanted in connection with sexual assault on woman in Hemel Hempstead

AN IRISH man is wanted by police in Hertfordshire after a woman was sexually assaulted and her handbag was stolen.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, had been walking with a friend along Marlowes to Crescent Road in Hemel Hempstead on Sunday, December 6.

The pair separated at around 4.20am, and the victim continued walking along Midland Road, Dacorum Way, Combe Street and into Leighton Buzzard Road.

A man approached her from behind, sexually assaulted her and took her handbag, before heading off along Leighton Buzzard Road.

The suspect is described as a white man with an Irish accent, 20–30 years old, 5ft 10inches tall, of a slim build and wearing a beanie hat.

Detective Constable Archie Bagworth said: “Whilst this was in the early hours of the morning I am confident some people would have been around and may have seen the victim or someone acting suspiciously in the area.

“The majority of the victim’s property was found the next day on Cemmaes Court Road. We believe the offender must have fled this way and may have even stopped for a short time to look at the property before discarding it.”

Anyone who has any information which would assist the investigation is asked to contact the Herts Police non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number D1/15/8076.
