Irish hospitality firm helps New Horizons charity raise £25,000 for vulnerable young people

AN IRISH hospitality company has helped a charity for vulnerable young people in London to raise over £25,000.

Green & Fortune partnered with charity New Horizons for the 50th anniversary year, to raise awareness of the great work the charity is doing, as well as raise valuable funds.

The charity was founded in 1967 by Lord Longford to address the needs of young people who were involved in drug misuse in the West End of London.

Today, the charity continues to work with the most vulnerable and at risk young people and is managed by a voluntary Board of Trustees.

Green & Fortune, led by Irish CEO John Nugent, held a summer party for New Horizons Youth Centre at its Rotunda Bar and Restaurant in King's Cross on June 26.

The event saw over 100 attendees from businesses and private individuals alike, commit to helping the charity raise money to benefit vulnerable and at risk young people in London, while wait staff wore New Horizons branded T-shirts throughout the event showing their support for the charity.

The event saw over 100 businesses and private individuals turn out to support the charity.

The event included a BBQ and raffle on Rotunda’s canal side terrace, followed by an auction chaired by Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow who is a patron of the charity after working with the youth centre for several years in the 1970s.

The auction on the night had prizes including holidays, shopping vouchers, meals and Arsenal tickets with individual bids exceeding £2,000.

A last-minute surprise auction was held for one of patron Jon Snow’s ties, which had been seen only hours earlier on the Channel 4 news.

Green & Fortune, CEO John Nugent said: “New Horizons is such a great charity and we’re delighted to be able to help them in this very special year for them.

"As a hospitality provider, we employ a number of young people across the business and witness first-hand the issues many of them face daily.

"It’s fantastic to see a charity dedicated to supporting them and raising awareness of homelessness in particular.

Patron and Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow supplied a surprise prize on the night by auctioning off the tie he wore for the news broadcast earlier that evening.

"The generosity of the people attending was encouraging to see with Jon Snow even auctioning his own tie, the money raised will make a huge difference to the day-to-day operations of the charity.”

Green & Fortune and Kings Place Events were launched specifically for Kings Place by Chief Executive Officer John Nugent in 2008.

The company operates Kings Place Events, the Green & Fortune Café and Rotunda Bar and Restaurant all located in Kings Place.

In 2016 Green & Fortune commenced an agreement with Ogilvy & Mather to oversee all hospitality and catering at the company’s Sea Containers site, including a second Green & Fortune Café alongside Cucumber Bar and Bistro and Sunset Bar & Café.
