Irish fashion hits London scene in annual Arthur Cox showcase

SOME of Ireland’s finest young designers presented their wares at a fashion showcase held in London last night.

Wrapped in designs by the likes of Sean Byrne, Zoe Carol and Melissa Curry, a bevvy of lithe models took to the catwalk at the Mall Galleries in the annual Arthur Cox Irish Fashion Showcase.

Founded in 2012, the event is the brainchild of Kathleen Garrett - a partner based at Arthur Cox’s London branch.

It is designed to promote new Irish designers in London and in New York, where Arthur Cox also has a busy office.

“The global fashion industry is worth over 1 trillion euro, more than twice the global pharmaceuticals industry, and fashion is the 15th largest sector in the UK, worth around £21 billion a year to the economy,” an Arthur Cox spokesperson explained.

“These catwalk collections, from some of the most exciting young Irish designers, are being presented to media, fashion buyers, designers and influencers in major cities, with the intention of showcasing Irish talent and essentially driving business.”

They added: “With Irish designers now making their mark in London, New York, Paris, Saudi, and further afield, Ireland’s sartorial roots in Aran sweaters and tweeds is giving way to a creative fashion future that is more radical than rural, and is playing a small but significant part in driving economic recovery!”

Other designers featured on the night included Jen Kelly, Roisin Linnane, Martha Lynn, Polly McGettigan, Niamh O'Neill, Susannagh Grogan and Helen Steele.
