Irish city named one of the world's gin capitals

IRISH people are known for their fondness for a drink - with gin being no exception.

The classic gin and tonic seems to have had something of a rebirth in the last two or three years - with the standard G&T and a slice of lemon seen as something of a lacklustre option.

The addition of different fruits, flowers and even tonics have seen a soar in the demand for gin in Irish pubs and nightclubs and going from the news, it seems our reputation for loving gin has gone international.

According to FlashPack, a travel company found the number of hashtags used on Instagram related to gin and the location used on the certain photo to calculate which city was best known for their gin.

From their findings, they found that London was the most popular place for getting a gin & tonic, where a whopping 46 distilleries have opened since November 2016.

The list they compiled showed that the top 10 Gin Capitals of the World were:

  1. London, UK
  2. Berlin, Germany
  3. New York, USA
  4. Barcelona, Spain
  5. Broadbeach, Australia
  6. Melbourne, Australia / Edinburgh, UK
  7. Singapore, Asia
  8. Sao Paulo, Brazil
  9. Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil / Healesville, Australia
  10. Dublin, Ireland / Linne, Netherlands.

Dublin tied with Linne in the Netherlands, but it's still better than America - whom only have one city on the list!

Time to sip up ladies and gents...
