Irish airline chief gets a cream pie in the face during speech in Australia

AN IRISH airline chief got a cream pie in the face while speaking at an Australian business breakfast.

Alan Joyce, a Dublin native and CEO of Quantas Airways, was speaking at the West Business Leadership Matters event in Perth when the incident happened, according to a local news source.

An unknown assailant with grey hair, dressed in a suit and armed with a cream pie, appeared from behind the curtain to the right of Mr Joyce and smashed the pie into his face.

Despite the mess, Mr Joyce maintained his composure saying “I don’t know what that was about” before excusing himself to clean himself up.

Speaking after the breakfast, Mr Joyce said the pie-ing was "different."

“I think when you’ve been a CEO of an airline for nine years, there’s been a lot of things that have happened over that period of time,” Mr Joyce said.

“This is different, but it’s not unusual. It is an unusual event, but these things certainly have happened. Things have happened like this in the past.”

Other pie-face victims include Bill Gates, Jeremy Clarkson and designer Karl Lagerfeld.
