Ireland’s beautiful coastline captured in stunning pictures as photography award winners revealed

A PICTURE capturing waves crashing into Martello Tower in Blackrock, Dublin has scooped the top spot at a prestigious awards competition.

Gino Perfetti’s Withstanding the Storm was named Photograph of the Year at this week’s eighth annual Love Your Coast Photography Awards.

The event, hosted by Clean Coasts, is all about capturing the essence of the Irish coast, its extensive beauty and diverse character.

Clean Coasts is owned and operated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce.

Perfetti’s image also came top in the Coastal Heritage category, one of five in the competition which also includes Coastal Landscape, People and the Coast, Wildlife and the Coast and Underwater.

Perfetti’s winning image saw off strong competition from other category winners including Clodagh Blake, whose mesmerising Grace of the Dolphins, taken in Youghal, Co. Cork, topped the Wildlife and the Coast category.

Sinead McCoy, Coastal Communities Manager with the Environmental Education Unit, praised the high quality of entries in this year’s competition.

She said: “The images submitted to the Love Your Coast Awards this year was of an extremely high standard and illustrating the vast character of our coastline from Fanad in Donegal to the Skelligs in Kerry, from dolphins to surfers and from families enjoying a day out at the beach to dramatic seascapes, these photographs truly captured the essence of the Irish coastline.”
