Ireland's worst serial parking offender has been revealed

PARKING TICKETS can be a pain at the best of times but, like it or lump it, these fines usually end up getting paid.

However, new figures have revealed Ireland’s worst serial parking ticket offender and the astonishing number of fines he has racked up.

Data collected from the local authorities of Ireland’s four largest cities by the Irish Mirror have shed light on the shocking amounts of money some motorists owe as a result of parking tickets.

The figures revealed that there are at least six people who have racked up fines of more than €10,000 in parking tickets.

One driver was far and away the worst offender though, running up fines of more than €55,000 after not paying an astonishing 919 separate tickets.

All 919 of these fines were levied at the standard rate of €60, resulting in the substantial total and came as a result of illegally parking.

The Dublin region of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown was shown to be something of a problem area for drivers, with 10 offenders amassing more than €176,000 in unpaid tickets.

According to the Irish Mirror, one of these 10 was found to have parked more than 100 times in a disabled bay and was hit with a €120 fine each time, resulting in a total bill of €14,320.

The figures have been published to help shed light on the alarming number of motorists in Ireland who are regularly flouting the rules around parking in many major cities.

Earlier this month, gardai shared a picture of some questionable parking on social media after a jeep driver took up two disabled bays in Dublin.

In that instances, a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice was issued, but the rising number of incidents like this may force the authorities to introduce heavier fines or stricter punishments.
