Ireland set for dramatic temperature drop as rain and wind returns

AFTER a sizzling Bank Holiday weekend, Ireland is set for a return to normality this week with mild temperatures and bouts of wind and rain forecast.

Yesterday saw temperatures reach heights of 22C in parts of the country, as the Irish public flocked to beaches, gardens and parks to make the most of the sunshine.

However, Met Eireann has broken the bad news that temperatures are set to plummet by over 10C today.

To make matters worse, things are due to get colder as the week progresses.

Wednesday will start dry in the east but rain in the west will spread to all parts during the morning. In the afternoon the rain will clear from the west to sunshine and showers. Blustery during the day with southerly winds becoming westerly as the rain clears. Highest temperatures only 9 to 11 degrees.

According to Met Eireann, rain will clear the east throughout this morning and it will brighten up everywhere with sunny spells and occasional showers to follow for the rest of the day. It will be a much fresher day with highs of 12 to 15 degrees in moderate westerly winds.

Thursday will be a bright day with sunny spells and occasional showers and highs of 11 to 13 degrees in fresh southwest winds.

Friday will see heavy rain spreading eastwards during the morning with the rain persisting across much of the country until evening. Highs of 9 or 10 degrees in southerly winds.

Showers will continue over the weekend with temperatures ranging between 10 and 13 degrees.
