WITH its ubiquitous green fields and iconic natural landmarks, we all know Ireland is a land of stunning beauty.
However that has now been confirmed by renowned travel publisher Rough Guides.
The company, famous for its comprehensive guidebooks covering countries around the world, asked its readers to vote for the most beautiful country on the planet.
And confirming what we all know, Ireland makes the list of the world’s most beautiful lands, coming in at number 18 on the list.
Describing the Emerald Isle, the publishers say: “Among the romantic preconceptions visitors bring to Ireland, it is their expectations of the landscape that are most likely to be fulfilled.”
Ireland ranked above Vietnam and Croatia, although it was put in the shade somewhat by some neighbours closer to home.
Scotland took top spot on the list, with England coming seventh and Wales sitting at number 10.
While that might sound disappointing, there are 206 sovereign states in the world, putting Ireland firmly in the top 10 per cent.
