Ireland ranks ahead of UK and US in list of safest countries in the world for Covid-19

IRELAND HAS been named among the top 40 safest countries in the world when it comes to Covid-19. 

That’s according to new a report from Deep Knowledge Group, a consortium of commercial and non-profit organisations, which found Ireland ranked as the 38th safest nations on the planet for coronavirus. 

Switzerland topped the list, just ahead of Germany with Israel, Singapore and Japan completing the top five. 

The Republic ranked significantly higher than the United Kingdom, which was down in 68th while the US was also further down on the list at 58th. 

It comes as case numbers continue to drop in Ireland, with Leo Varadkar announcing plans to speed up plans for a lifting of lockdown restrictions from next week. 

According to the report, the highest-risk regions lie in South America and Sub-Saharan Africa. 

Several Middle Eastern countries and Asia Pacific nations also ranked poorly on the countdown. 

The study said: "Switzerland and Germany achieve the #1 and #2 positions in this new special case study specifically because of their economy’s resilience, and due to the careful ways in which they are attempting to relax lockdown and economic freezing mandates in a fact and science-based manner, without sacrificing public health and safety."
