Inquest into death of six-day-old baby who died in hospital due to resume

AN INQUEST is set to resume today into the death of a baby boy who died at just six-days-old.

Baby Henry McMahon was born to Sorcha and Simon McMahon, from Stillorgan in Dublin, at the National Maternity Hospital on Holles Street on 23 September 2017.

Sadly though, he passed away just six-days-later after being transferred to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.

It was tragically also the day of parents Sorcha and Simon's first wedding anniversary.

An inquest into the death was launched earlier this year and heard that the baby had a rare congenital heart condition, which was known to the doctors as well as the parents.

The inquest, taking place at Dublin City Coroner’s Court was put on hold but has now resumed.

Evidence presented also found that baby Henry suffered fractures and head injuries likely to have been caused by instruments used during his delivery.

A forceps and vacuum cap have been confirmed as being used by medical staff assisting in the birth.
