Ireland's capital city went back 100 years in time today as part of a multi-million euro plan launched by the Irish Government to mark the centenary of 1916 over the coming year.
Today Dublin’s streets went back to 1915 with a vintage themed family day setting out Ireland’s road to revolution ahead of the centenary celebrations next year.
Over the next 12 months more than €35million will go towards supporting commemorative cultural events, with education and community among the cornerstones of Ireland 2016 — the Government’s initiative to mark the 1916 Rising, which was launched last week.
Today Dublin stepped back a century to 1915 as part of a free family event being backed by RTÉ.
The Road to the Rising saw a number of themed and vintage events - featuring period cars and actors taking place across the capital as O'Connell Street became an Edwardian thoroughfare.
Joining in the festivities was Wynn’s Hotel, just across from the GPO, who hosted a 1915 afternoon tea menu, while the iconic Clery’s department store held a vintage fashion show.
