TODAY was the hottest day of the year in Ireland, and the hottest place in the country has now been revealed.
With an outlook of rising temperatures for the remainder of the week, the Irish public got the first taste of an end of June heatwave with a blistering day all over the country today.
It is undeniably the hottest day of the year so far, and one town can officially lay claim to the the title of hottest area in the country.
That town is Oak Park, County Carlow, where temperatures reached 27C this afternoon.
Oak Park is an estate located around three kilometres from Carlow town, and we can only imagine there's a lot of red shoulders there this evening.
It was BBC weather forecaster Barra Best who revealed the figures on his Twitter page this evening, which showed that Mullingar, Co Westmeath, Mount Dillon, Co Roscommon and Gurteen, Co Sligo all came in joint second with temperatures reaching 26C in those places.
At 27C - it’s the hottest day of the year, so far.

Ireland's national forecaster Met Eireann has issued a status yellow high temperature warning for the entire country, which will remain in place until 9pm on Friday.
